The purpose of this study was to improve our understanding of about the counselors¡¯ experiences with those adolescents who engage in non-suicidal self-injury(nssi) and to derive whatever lessons or greater meaning we can from their experiences. The lived experiences of counselors were explored through in-depth interviews following a narrative inquiry methodology. Two counselors with more than 7 years experience and who have worked with more than 3 nssi clients were chosen as participants. Their experiences were interpreted and categorized into four main topics: ¡®becoming a counselor who focuses on human beings¡¯, ¡®becoming a counselor who practices the ethics of self-care¡¯, ¡®understanding their adolescent clients within the context of this phenomenon¡¯, and ¡®becoming a counselor who accepts the limitations of counseling¡¯. The significance of this study is that it has broadened our understanding of the counselors¡¯ experiences with adolescents who engage in nssi and the difficulties they may face, as well as helping to confirm the process at work in the counselors¡¯ self-development.
